Social Issue Assignment
"A house divided against itself cannot stand"~ Abraham Lincoln
As a country, we're losing the sense of unity we once had by not being able to openly express our opinions for fear that someone will be offended. Hypersensitivity is slowly taking away our First Amendment right to freedom of speech.

Photojournalism Assignment
Here are a few shots from my most recent Photojournalism assignment. I tend to be very shy, so this class has been a little bit of a challenge for me so far. Our professor encourages us to approach our subjects after we photograph them to hopefully get their names so we can write a successful caption for our photos when we hand them in for grading. We were given badges with our names and contact information on them to wear when we attend events. I decided to wear mine to this game and it ended up helping me out a lot because the coaches allowed me to get closer to the action. I feel like it made me seem more professional because if I hadn't been wearing it, they might not have let me take any photos. It was a great learning experience for me and I'm happy with my results.

New Work
I haven't posted anything on here in a while, so I thought I'd show you guys a few of the projects I've been working on and what I did during the summer. My family and I decided to take a trip to Bar Harbor, Maine in late July. We had never been there before so we weren't sure if we'd enjoy ourselves, but we ended up loving it and didn't want to leave. The top two photos were taken in Acadia National Park which is the main attraction where we were. That place is absolutely beautiful and I can't wait to go back someday. I took a few trips into Manhattan throughout the summer. I visited the High Line for the first time and I attended a few concerts. The third picture was taken from the High Line. I'm hoping to edit more of the photos from that day soon. A few weeks ago, I was able to photograph my cousins wedding. I wasn't their official photographer, but I'm happy with what I was able to capture. The last photo was taken in the studio at my college. This semester, we have started working in there a lot more. It's a little intimidating because I'm not very creative when it comes to directing a model, but I think I've been doing okay so far. My friend (and classmate), Christina, was able to model for me, and I did the same for her. It was nice working with each other because we were both in the same boat. I'm looking forward to editing/shooting more projects!

Final Project
After changing my idea 100 times and many weeks of uncertainty, I can finally say I'm finished with my final Digital assignment. We were supposed to find song lyrics or a quote that inspires us, and take pictures that represent what we chose. I decided to use one of my favorite songs called "Eyes to the Sky" by Jon Bellion. The very first line of the song reads, "Anxiety dances across my pillow case". I love that line so much because it perfectly describes how I feel a lot of the time. It makes me think of everything that keeps me up at night: constant worrying, regrets that I have, loneliness. I wanted the first three photos to give off that feeling. The very last thing you hear at the end of the song is a man's voice saying "You're gonna be okay kid, you're gonna be okay." Even though you're still going to worry, have regrets, and feel lonely, there is always hope. I wanted the second group of pictures to still have darkness/anxiety, but to also have a little light in each that gradually gets brighter until the very last photo. I wanted to express as best I could that as hard as life gets, and as lonely or sad you might feel at times, God's light is always with you.

Experimenting
For my Digital Class, our final project was to take photographs "in the style of" a photographer that we like. I decided to use someone I've been following on Flickr for a few years now. His username is "Mister Blur" (I don't know his actual name) which is very appropriate because he uses blur in a lot of his images. I normally use DOF (depth of field) in a lot of my photographs so there is normally something blurry/something in focus. I've never completely blurred the entire image, so it was interesting to edit my results. I'm looking forward to experimenting with this even more.

Bayard Cutting Arboretum
Okay, so I found my new favorite place. About a week ago, my friend Chloe and I decided to take a trip to Bayard Cutting Arboretum in Great River and it was definitely a good decision. It was very foggy which gave a creepy/haunting feel to my photographs and it was perfect. We got there an hour before closing which didn't leave us much time, but I'm so happy with what I was able to capture. I cannot wait to get back there and explore even more.

Working With Flash
In my Lighting class, we started working with our flashes. These photographs are from two different projects. For the top image, I attached my flash to my camera, and for the second, I used my off camera cord which enabled me to place the flash anywhere that I wanted to get different effects. I'm honestly not a huge fan of using a flash, but I'm pretty happy with my results.
